The Kerala Club of Detroit

The Kerala Club of Detroit is a non-profit, non-political and, non-religious cultural organization of Malayalee citizens of Metro Detroit. Well represented in a burgeoning population of Indians in Southeast Michigan, Malayalees trace their roots to the state of Kerala, a picturesque and beautiful state in India, a tourism paradise in Asia and often referred to as Gods Own Country.

Established in 1975, The Kerala Club of Detroit through its strong 1000 plus family membership, maintains and promotes the unique culture of Kerala through various cultural and social activities and the traditional arts of Kerala and, remains forefront in promoting charitable activities and community services both in Metro Detroit and in India.

The Kerala Club membership represents a wide degree of skills and accomplishments and are mainstreamed in Michigan’s workforce. But, beyond working hard, they also strive to preserve and nourish the Kerala culture and heritage for the future Malayalee generation.

Keralathinte Vanambadi ( K S Chitra )


Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra (born 27 July 1963), is an Indian playback singer from Kerala. Chithra also sings Indian classical, devotional, and popular music. She has lent her voice to Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Badaga, Sanskrit, Tulu, Urdu and Punjabi songs. Through a career spanning more than three decades, she has recorded over 20,000 songs, received six National Film Awards (the most by any female singer), five Filmfare Awards South and 31 different state film awards. Chithra is popularly and fondly referred to as Chinna Kuyil (Little Nightingale of South India) or Keralathinte Vanambadi (Nightingale of Kerala).

Sharreth


Sujith Vasudevan, better known by his stage name 'Sharreth', is a music director and singer. He predominantly composes film scores and songs for Malayalam films, but has gone on to compose for Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films too. He won the Filmfare Award for the best music director in 2008. He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director in 2011 for the film Ivan Megharoopan. He was also the first recipient of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Classical Music Singer for his song Bhavayami in the film Meghatheertham.
